Flat StomachDeveloping a lean, flat stomach takes time and patience, especially when it comes to those last few kilograms in those hard to lose places. There is only one way to lose fat in the so-called ‘stubborn areas,’ and that is with the correct combination strength training (with a extra focus on mid-section), cardiovascular exercise (short, hard workouts), and stable blood sugar (keeps you from adding additional fat and makes it easier for the body to use body fat for fuel).

Spot Reduction is a Myth – The first thing you need to realize is that it is impossible to ‘spot reduce’ fat from one specific part of the body. Fat loss occurs systemically, meaning that you can’t control where the fat comes from. When you burn fat for energy, you will draw it from all areas of the body, and the first place you tend to put it on will be the last place it comes off.

Cardio, cardio, cardio – Doing all the abs exercises in the world will do nothing if you have a layer of fat covering it. Doing strength training, or lifting weights, would help, but not as much as aerobic exercise. If you want to add some ab exercises in after the cardio, that’s great, but be sure to work your whole torso, not just the upper abs — that includes the lower abs, lower back and the muscles that wrap around your sides.

For example, Walking, jogging, bicycling, elliptical exercise and stair climbing are all great fat burners. Most give up early in the workout. During the first 10 minutes of aerobic activity, glycogen (stored carbohydrates) is the primary fuel source. Because you don’t burn significant amounts of fat until glycogen stores are depleted, the key to maximum fat loss is to work out aerobically for 30-60 minutes continuously per session.

Diet – Its best to stay away from fried food and too many sugary desserts. Abdominal fat loss is a 50% exercise, 50% nutrition combination. Regardless of how much you workout, if the number of calories you take in is greater than the amount you burn, you’ll still put on abdominal fat.

Eat Small Meals Regularly – You should try and spread your calories out into five small meals a day instead of 2 or 3 big ones so that you don’t overeat in one feeding.

Give it Time – If you want to have a flat stomach in 3 weeks, forget it. Losing fat takes time, and it’s unhealthy to lose too much weight too fast. Gradual weight loss is healthier, and more likely to be sustained over time. Go for a lifestyle change, something you can live with for the rest of your life, or you will just yo-yo. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

      Believe me for some people gaining weight is also not easy but it is not impossible. You can try banana shake everyday and also have some dairy products which significantly should contain milk, take dry fruits as well. Start with light workout, this enhance hunger and more intake of food and also it will avoid deposition of fat over the belly.

    Yes you are right about high Carb. n natural or artificial sugar is bad for person who is trying to loose weight,but you know not only diet n exercise but, enough sleep is also help to reduce the fat. Person’s lifestyle also make big factor in their health.If you train yourself to eat in small quantity n spread that meal in 5 times a day will make your digestion faster n you will burn your calories much more.
    Stay away from not only oily food but also carb n sugary too!Eat more multi grain n whole wheat,also leafy vegetables which help digest the food easily.I’m bless with high metabolism so never have to worry about fat problem.But that doesn’t mean I will not exercise or watch what I eat n when.I exercise 3 times a week some easy,like cycling,jogging,sit-ups so yes it helps me to keep my stomach flat.BTW I’m 37 yrs. old mom.:)

One needs to feel dissatisfied with the amount of exercise one does and must crave more. Exercise can give one a high. Just like booze or maybe, drugs.   • If you get bored easily switch to the aerobic exercise called sex.But you have to have the at-it-tude ie. keep at it for 30 minutes at a stretch.

    I believe when we talk about calories it is important that we have a good mixture of Protein and complex carbohydrates and need to keep away from sugar spiking foods such as refined Carbs such as White Rice and Pastas/Noodles. You may consider having whole grains or leaft vegies or lean meats. If we eat a portion of protein with every meal and eliminate saturated fats it helps to reduce our fat levels. We also need fat to produce hormones so when cutting down on fats it is helpful to identify the good fats Vs the bad ones. Omega 3s are helpful in reducing the cholestrol levels and Low Density Lipoproteins (Bad Fats) and also nuts will help you provide the Recommended daily intake of fats.

    In addition the key to doing exercise is to make sure all body muscles are worked and it is important to raise the Heart Rate to 70% of your maximum heart rate. Body does get used to the same routine in about 4 – 6 weeks so it is essential to vary your exercises to get the maximum benefit. If you want to maximise fat burning I suggest do weights first (strengthen your core muscles – thigs, backs, shoulders, Back and Abs) and then do cardio. So you will burn glycogen first and then when you do cardio it will burn all your fats.

  • Thats a really nice article. You’re absolutely right… loosing weight is a slow process. But you know what i lost over 5 kgs in 3 weeks and not the unhealthy way. I took a balanced diet, no fatty, fried food, no deserts…. Drank loads of water, almost 3-5 liters each day. Took the regular food but with loads of salad (salads are rich in fiber and intake of fiber doesn’t make you hungry for long). Went regularly for aerobics and after 3 weeks i lost a good 5 Kilos.

    Its not easy to loose weight but one can always try. And along with all the above mentioned stuff, its your attitude, control over your mind, your positive thinking and a healthy mind that matters. If you have a healthy mind you will have a healthy body as well. Many a times I would have a strong urge to go get an ice cream or a burger. But I controlled and controlled and when I saw the results on the weight machine I was so happy and content. And now I really don’t feel like grabbing anything fatty.

    All beliv that we should not eat fried food, we try our level best to do so but there are some circumstances where we have to eat. Is it ok if we eat occasionally ?

    1)when you wake up drink one green tea
    2) Dont eat anything after 5.00pm but drink more water in the night
    3) drink one glass of water eah hour
    4) Morning time try to take oats with low fat milk
    5) keep your lunch time something with wheat
    6) Avoid tea or coffee but use green tea
    7)If you feel hungry try to eat water melon
    Then not required any excercise, do it three weeks continuesly then see the result

    The tips on reducing fat especially on the abdomen is excellent. The fact that intake of calories should be less than those we burn is a profound truth. I work out regularly (20 mins of brisk walking & 20 mins of dumb bells)altho I am 59 yrs old, I feel a little run down sometimes , what should I do to get back that energy. Is there any supplement I should take ? I do not take any multivitamin tabs, my food intake is balanced.

    Thks for Valid suggestions, and also we can burn our calory by brisk walk only 40 min a day evening 20 min and morning 20 min. And drink plenty of water , whenever you take juices take sugerless,avoid coffee tea,sleep well,and do some breathing execises, continue this for at leat 60 days definatly you will loose your weight. Try and see.

    My personal experience of reducing fats around stomach is very effective and fast without any side effects !
    Climb up at least four storeys stairs( If you can climb more, even better) fast i.e. almost running and do the same while coming down. Fast climbing and coming down the stairs at least thrice a day will give you unbelievable results in fifteen days time. So just give it a try. Nothing to lose except extra fats !

    Its a really good and workable suggestion of having split food at least 4 times. Along with that if you drink a glass of little hot water (400-500 ml) gives you fast n healthy result. I am trying this for last 10 months. I reduce by 12 kg (from 82 to 70 kg) n stomach reduction from 36 inch to 31 inch. This also improved my energy level (I can work 4 more hours) n looking younger.

      As long as you reduce eating oily food, sweets, and other food rich in fat will help you. along with that 30mins of brisk walk and stretch exercises is must. When ever you feel hungry it is suggested that you eat fruits, nuts and biscuits (marielight, Britania multigrain)etc..

    and start with earobic but dance earobic and the powerfull one.
    i just watch music videos and try to immitate them now im a profetional dancer in many type:indian. hiphap. iranian dance and korean dance(their dance is sth spetional) and althou im in a very good shape all people around me love to dance like me and also they are wonderd how could i loss that much fat.

    Useful information for a flat stomach, but a bit incomplete. Very often, an additional reason for fat accumulating in the region of the stomach is improper sitting position. Persons who like to let their bodies carelessly “sink” into their favourite sofa or chair with the lower half of the body almost in a reclining position, tend to trap fat around the middle of their bodies, the region of the stomach, causing fat buildup. Most men and women with excess fat are also the ones who adopt the wrong sitting posture at home and at work. Therefore, merely a change in diet and regular exercise won’t help. Correct Sitting Posture is equally important in ensuring fat buildup does not occur.
